so … that … 与 such … that …：so 后面接形容词或副词（so angry that …）；such 后面接名词短语（such a fright that …）。判断口诀：so 后是「形/副」，such 后是「名」。
need doing ＝ need to be done：The strap needs mending. 字面上是主动，意思却是「包带需要被修理」。同类动词还有 want、require：The room wants cleaning. / The car requires repairing.
过去完成时的「先发生」：句 1 用 she was taking（正在冒的风险），句 2 用 had rushed up（先冲上来），句 6 用 had sat down（先坐下了）。凡是在另一个过去动作之前就已完成的动作，都用过去完成时。
