1Dreams of finding lost treasure /'treʒə/ n. 财宝 almost came true recently.

2A new machine called 'The Revealer /rɪ'viːlə/ n. 探测器' has been invented /ɪn'ventɪd/ v. 发明 and it has been used to detect /dɪ'tekt/ v. 探测 gold which has been buried in the ground.
一种叫“探宝器”的新机器已经发明出来,并被人们用来探测地下埋藏的金子。
3The machine was used in a cave /keɪv/ n. 山洞 near the seashore /'siːʃɔː/ n. 海岸 where — it is said — pirates /'paɪərəts/ n. 海盗 used to hide gold /ɡəʊld/ n. 金子.

4The pirates would often bury /'beri/ v. 埋藏 gold in the cave and then fail to collect it.

5Armed /ɑːmd/ v. 武装 with the new machine, a search party went into the cave hoping to find buried treasure.

7Very excited, the party dug a hole two feet deep.

10In spite of this, many people are confident /'kɒnfɪdənt/ adj. 有信心的 that 'The Revealer' may reveal something of value /'væljuː/ n. 价值 fairly soon.
